STAR

STAR network

The State Advocates for Reimbursement network

is a collection of PAs at the state level who have an interest in reimbursement and payment policy, and a willingness to research policies and share findings with fellow PAs, State Chapter Leaders and AAPA. STARs will be the eyes and ears for the profession by detecting policy changes as they occur.

The goal is to have one STAR for each major payer in a state. That way the time commitment is kept manageable.

Among the tasks STARS will be asked to do include:

  • Monitoring 1 (or 2 in there aren't enough volunteers) private payer in the state. This may be accomplished by searching the website for payer policies, which sometimes includes provider protected web pages.
  • Participating in bi-monthly conference calls to share research techniques and findings with PAs across the country.

It is very difficult to access payer websites if you are not enrolled in that payers network. In other words - if you are enrolled in HealthPartners but not Blue Cross Blue Shield you may not be able to access the BC/BS website but you should have ready access to HealthPartners.
