National PA week is October 6-12, 2018: Celebrate yourself, your colleagues and our profession

Mary Alivia Tolsma PA-C, MPH & Jen Lipinski PA-C,Public Relations Co-Chairs

Ask yourself: What can I do to support my profession during PA week and all year long?

1) Join or renew MAPA and AAPA.

2)Join a MAPA committee, attend a board meeting as a MAPA member to see what it is all about, and/or consider running for a board position!Contact the MAPA office with questions at 651.237.7241 or

3) Use the AAPA and MAPA hashtags on social media during PA Week! It’s not hard and for some of you, it can be your first hashtag. You may win prizes from AAPA and/or MAPA.

#PAweek #MinnesotaPA

4) Connect with PA colleagues and allies in your organization, hospital or clinic. Many clinics celebrate their PAs on social media during PA week. If your clinic does not, post something yourself with your colleagues or ask HR / management to consider posting something.

5) Add a PA Week overlay to your profile pic. AAPA has graphics for download.

6) Connect with your elected officials about the PA profession. MAPA organizes PA Day on the Hill and needs practicing PAs from around the state to meet with their elected officials. Our practice laws are determined at the state level, so participating in these activities directly affects our profession in Minnesota. Please join us and if legislative issues are your cup of tea or you want to learn how else you can help, consider joining MAPA’s legislative committee.

7) Precept PA students because more PA programs means more clinical rotations to coordinate. Our state has Augsburg, St. Catherine, Bethel, St. Scholastica and soon we will have Mayo students all needing training. OBGYN prenatal rotations are particularly challenging for PA Programs to coordinate, so if you are a PA in this or any other field, please reach out to MAPA or the PA schools directly. If working with students is of interest to you, we also have a student relations committee on the MAPA board that you could join to get involved.

PA Week Contests

The goal of these activities is not just to win prizes (no really, it’s more than that), but also to show our friends, family, colleagues and PAs nationally that PAs in Minnesota have pride in our profession. Get involved!
