Delaney Lundeen, MS, RD, PA-C | Preceptor/Mentor of the Year

Friday, March 20, 2020

Over the course of the past year Delaney served as a mentor to Amber Ignaszewski, a Pre-PA member of MAPA.

Here is what Amber shared in the nomination:
“Delaney not only exemplifies outstanding commitment and care to the patients she serves; she has also served this Organization in more ways than I can describe. Delany and I were "matched" in one of the first trials for MAPA's PA mentorship last spring. As a student at the University of Minnesota on the path to becoming a PA (and working on CASPA at the time to apply that spring 2019), I jumped on this mentorship offer in hopes of receiving guidance with the application process, what a day in the life of a PA was like, and how to be successful in the vocation. Shortly after I submitted my interest for a PA mentor I was “matched” with Delaney.

Delaney reached out via email graciously offering to meet me for coffee. Little did I know this simple coffee meeting would so significantly impact my confidence with my application and the overall process. She sat down with me to help me brainstorm enticing stories I had encountered to include in my personal statement and answered all my questions regarding the lengthy process for applying to PA school. In addition, she listened to my concerns, she validated my feelings, and encouraged me every step of the way - all qualities of an exemplary PA.

Once my applications were all submitted, I heard back from A.T. Still University (where Delany attended) saying I was offered an interview. Delaney then offered to meet for coffee again to conduct a mock interview. This made me extremely prepared for the in-person interview and before I knew it, I was accepted to ATSU. Now I am counting down the days until I start PA school at ATSU this July!

I have so much gratitude for the MAPA mentorship program and especially for Delaney and her commitment of service to those around her. She went above and beyond as a mentor and I know this work-ethic carries through in her practice. If there is anyone deserving of the Mentor of the Year Award, it would be Delaney Lundeen for her gracious heart and passion instilled deep within her for the PA vocation!”

Delaney is a Hospitalist PA with Voyage Healthcare in Robbinsdale.
